The Three Day Question |
|
This story was started all the way back in 2001, and unhappily abandoned when I wrote myself into a plot corner that I couldn't see the way out of. I moved onto other pairings but never lost sight of one of my favourite OTPs, hoping that one day I'd be able to complete this story, if only for myself. I pretty much stopped writing fan fiction after Torchwood's Children of Earth. Before it even aired I was thoroughly enjoying myself writing the requisite Ianto resurrection story, but days after the series was shown I lost one of my dearest friends in a traffic accident. Plunged into mourning and deep depression, the concept of so easily resurrecting a dead character mocked and appalled me. Apart from finishing a couple of half written stories for my annual Christmas Spander event on Tales from the Attic, I found myself unable to write for fun anymore. Ironically, it’s been a year of loss that’s brought me back to this story. Bereaved of family and friends I began to look around for a little comfort and, for some unfathomable reason, found it with Ray and Benny. ~ o O o ~ This story emerged from a real life project about Nature versus Nurture, which set me thinking about how Ray and Benny would be if their life circumstances had been different. They’re still the characters we know and love, and hopefully I’ve done a reasonable enough job of telling this story so that they’re recognisable despite their life changes. Obviously, The Three Day Question is very AU! Due to certain plot points, purists will hate this story very much. Sorry? The Afghan Whigs album that's frequently mentioned is Gentlemen, and it features the tracks What Jail Is Like, and My Curse. Bloody brilliant! Rating: NC-17 Spoilers: After all this time? Ha! Note on names: when I started writing this, I was unable to find a forename for Ray’s father, and a surname for Frankie Zuko’s sidekick Charlie, so chose them for myself. Warnings: Improbable situations and barely filled plot holes. Enter at your own risk. Enjoy! |
