Gaining parts of the future was like recovering a memory. Except that it played
in full Technicolor no matter what was happening around him. He’d zoned out on
his way from class that day when the vision hit. He saw Ghost Willow, Noblewoman
Buffy, and Soldier Xander running around confused. The fear and chaos clawed at
him, but Buffy’s terror when she saw Spike had sent him reeling.
The
images and emotions melted around him and when he came to, Principal Snyder was
in his face, asking if he was on drugs. The human’s head was killing him and he
was covered in clammy sweat. Oz and Cordelia explained later that without
warning, Xander’s eyes had rolled and he froze up. Giles had thought he was
having a seizure. Their group was starting to worry about him.
A
fraction of the weight on his heart had been lifted somehow by Spike’s presence.
The kiss had solidified the bond that had been created by looking into Hell
together, and the human felt better than he had in weeks.
“I won’t really
try to kill Buffy. It’ll just be an act.”
“Well see, that’s where the
problem comes in. I would love to play a role in it, only I’ll be No-Memory Guy.
Which, aside from that kiss--” his eyes darkened, “--will actually be kind of a
relief…”
